Caramelized Onions

The best addition to any burger, sandwich, pizza and more! Caramelized onions are delicious and easy! Great to have on hand. Double or triple the recipe as needed (remember, they will reduce down to about 1/3 of what you start with while cooking!)

Caramelized Onions

  • 4 yellow onions halved and thinly sliced
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder


  • Heat large skillet over medium high heat. Add olive oil and onions that have been thinly sliced. Cook 7-8 minutes or until onions start to break down. Move around frequently in pan.
  • Once onions release initial firmness, add butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. Mix well. Turn heat down to low. Cook 30-35 minutes or until caramelized in color and soft. Move around in pan occasionally while cooking.
  • Remove lid and cook uncovered another 5-7 minutes until any liquid has nearly evaporated and onions are thickened and glistening. Serve on burgers, sandwiches, pizza and more!
